Today in Sweden it is the waffle day! Yep, it is the day we all eat waffles. I did not know this but apparently according to Wikipedia;
The name comes from Vårfrudagen (“Our Lady’s Day”), which in vernacular Swedish sounds almost like Våffeldagen (waffle day). Our Lady’s Day is celebrated on March 25 (nine months before Christmas), the Christian holiday of Annunciation, and the Waffle Day is hence celebrated on the same day although it has no religious connections to Our Lady’s Day.
So now after you have learned something new today – let’s go make some of these yummy things and celebrate waffle day! 😀
This is what you need:
- 125 g butter
- 2 decilitre milk
- 4 decilitre wheat flour
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 2 decilitre cold water
Just whisk everything together in a bowl and then leave it for an hour or so. Then bring out your waffle maker and start making ’em! Serve with whipped cream and strawberry jam. Yum!!!
